Thomas J. Hynes was born in 1941. He graduated from Farmington High School, then attended the University of Notre Dame and Georgetown Law School receiving a Juris Doctor Degree. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as an infantry Platoon Commander in Vietnam.
Judge Hynes returned to Farmington in 1969 and began his legal career. In 1973 he was appointed District Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial District. In 1975 he formed the law firm of Hynes, Eastburn and Hale. His practice involved criminal defense, workmans compensation, civil and criminal litigation. During this time he was active in several associations such as the State Bar Association, Navajo Nation Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, and San Juan Bar Association. He has been active in organizations such as Childhaven Board of Directors, Noonday Lions, San Juan Country club, Farmington, Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Democratic Party.
Judge Hynes caseload is comprised mostly of criminal, civil, and domestic cases. He is actively involved in the court and it's special programs such as Adult Drug Court and Pre-trial Services.
