Here's a memo from the Chief District Judge William Birdsall Regarding the Inclement Weather Policy.

RE: Eleventh Judicial District Court Inclement Weather Policy

FROM: William C. Birdsall, Chief District Judge

Effective February 7, 2005, the Eleventh Judicial District Court will fully implement the Supreme Court’s Inclement Weather Policy Order issued on May 14, 2003.

If the municipal schools are either closed or delayed due to inclement weather, the Eleventh Judicial District Court in that municipality will either be closed or delayed.

The local school district where the court is located shall be the controlling factor in determining closure or delay. For example, it will be the Farmington school announcement that determines if there is a closure or delay in Farmington, not the announcement from another school district in another municipality.

Employees will not to come to work, open the doors, answer the phones or assist customers if there is a closure or delay. We will provide notice to our local television and radio stations immediately as to our new policy so the public will be informed. We will also take the necessary steps to notify attorneys, change our main voice mail greeting and code-o-phone message, and place signs on our entrances during the winter months indicating our policy regarding inclement weather.

Please note:

The delay will be observed the same as the municipal schools, i.e., proceedings will be delayed for the same period of time as the school delay. For example, if a hearing is scheduled to start at 8:00 AM, it will be delayed to 10:00 AM. As to hearings which would be delayed past normal court hours, please contact the Judge’s chambers.
